Requesting a copy of your personal record
Before applying for a copy of your baptism, confirmation or marriage record, you need to know in which church and in which year it happened.
Not all churches in this diocese have sent their baptism, confirmation or marriage registers to the Archives.
When you apply for a copy of your record, the Sydney Diocesan Archivist will first confirm if the Archives currently holds your record. If the registers are held in the Sydney Diocesan Archives, you will be asked to complete an application form and pay the $30 service fee. There are no databases of the baptisms, confirmations or marriages held in the diocese. To find the record, the Archivist will need to look at the relevant registers from the specified church.
It is only possible to supply copies of baptism, confirmation or marriage records to the person named in the register.
The Sydney Diocesan Archives cannot provide records for baptisms, confirmations or marriages performed in any of the other 22 Anglican dioceses in Australia.
If you were baptised, confirmed or married in a church outside of the boundaries of the Diocese of Sydney you need to contact the church or diocese where you were baptised or confirmed. You can find the websites of other Anglican dioceses listed on the national Anglican Church website. The Sydney Diocesan Archivist can assist you with relevant contact details for churches and parishes in other dioceses.
